A short video making rounds on X (formerly Twitter) has Nigerians talking non-stop. Posted by Nigeria music Queen @Teeniiola, the clip reportedly shows a young woman who allegedly stole someone’s phone, used it to access their bank app, and withdrew everything in the account.
According to the caption:
According to reports, this girl allegedly stole someone’s phone and withdrew all the money from their bank account. She was later caught the following day after being properly tracked.
In the footage, the girl stands crying and shaking in what looks like an open outdoor area (possibly rural or semi-urban). A man approaches, holds her firmly, and delivers a strong slap across the face — with overlaid text reading “Wait for the slap.” She bursts into louder sobs as the video cuts.
The online reaction has been massive and split:
- Many cheered the instant justice: As I remember Mirabel, anger just full my body (referencing a previous viral theft case), Good one, but don’t forget you must not lay hands on a thief if you’re into reverse cybersecurity, and Na small remain make I feel remorse but anger full my body.
- Others condemned the violence: “The guy who slapped her needs to be arrested! Why not hand her to the police?” and “This is assault. @PoliceNG please take action. Law is law.
- Some brought up gender double standards: “If na boy him feel go don peel, him fit don lose him legs” and “Why be say if them dey beat man wey thief, I no get pity, but woman cry small, pity dey rise?”
- A few joked darkly or questioned excuses: “Some people go still make excuse say na poverty make her thief” and “Her boyfriend shouldn’t be left out, arrest him too.”

The video has already garnered thousands of views, hundreds of likes/reposts, and over 200 replies showing how quickly theft + public punishment stories ignite debate in Nigeria. While phone theft and mobile banking fraud remain huge issues, many argue jungle justice only worsens things and that suspects deserve due process.
