Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has ordered the evacuation of Kogi students from the University of Jos following a directive by the school authorities to close the institution due to recent violence in the city.

At least around 27 people have been reported killed in the Angwan Rukuba attack in Jos North Local Government Area on March 29, 2026.

In a statement on Friday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismail Isah, said the decision was taken to protect Kogi indigenes studying in Plateau State.

“Students are particularly vulnerable during such crises, especially those residing off-campus and in less secure environments, making urgent government intervention necessary,” he stated.

Ododo added that the Special Adviser on Youth and Students Matters, Oladele Nihi, has been deployed to Jos with a delegation to coordinate the safe and orderly evacuation of the students.

He assured that arrangements have been concluded to transport the students home under adequate security, in collaboration with relevant agencies.

Ododo commended the swift intervention of President Bola Tinubu and security agencies working to restore calm in Plateau State.

He expressed confidence in ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators of the Jos crisis to justice.

The governor reassured parents and guardians that the safety and welfare of Kogi students remain a top priority and urged students to remain calm and cooperate with officials during the evacuation.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the protection of the lives and property of all Kogi citizens, both within and outside the state, and said his administration would continue to monitor developments closely.
